How a Customized Skincare Regimen Changed My Life

Some may consider my blonde hair, blue eyes and 2% milk-colored skin a blessing; I consider it a burden. Growing up, my friends and I would spend hours laying in the sun, slathering our bodies in baby oil and iodine – I am a child of the ‘80s, what can I say? I was always so pleased when my skin would turn a shade of red that only a lobster would appreciate. The time and money I dedicated toward tanning beds alone is enough to make most people cringe! All told, I spent the better part of my adult life attempting to tan skin that, as it turns out, doesn’t tan.

Now that I am approaching my 43rd birthday, I look back with regret at the untold, delayed damage my skin has undoubtedly suffered. Thanks to all of my insanely unhealthy habits, I’ve battled discolored, mottled and hyperpigmented skin for years.

My road to skin redemption began in 2008 at the ripe, old age of 35 when I began using Obagi – a very popular line of products sold to me as the “Holy Grail” of skincare. Because it came as an all-in-one kit, it seemed like a no-brainer. The downside was that it kept my already sensitive skin in a state of constant irritation, so I would use it only when I didn’t have upcoming events. In other words, I stopped using it when I actually needed to look good. Since I couldn’t incorporate it into my daily skincare regimen without being miserable, I saw no real benefits to my skin. I went on and off Obagi products for seven years until the day I met Dr. Seiler.

Dr. Seiler and his team of aestheticians helped educate me on the finer art of skincare, and, most importantly, taught me that there is no one-size-fits-all approach OR regimen. You see, everyone’s skin is uniquely different! I had been programmed to believe that unless you see red, peeling or irritated skin after using a product or undergoing a treatment, then you’re not repairing or correcting any issues. This could not be further from the truth. I’ll never forget the day that Lee, one of Seiler Skin’s aestheticians, shared with me the GRASS concept: Growth Factors, Retinols, Antioxidants, Specialty Products and Sunscreen. It was life-changing! After four months on a new regimen, my skin was transformed from a blotchy, dehydrated mess into a picture of health. I was so happy, I even felt comfortable going to the store without makeup (a HUGE step)!

Along with my medical-grade skincare regimen, I alternate between getting a HydraFacial and Chemical Peel each month, which helps exfoliate dead skin cells on the surface and nourish new layers of skin. My face has NEVER looked better! The before and after photos you see here were taken four months apart, after establishing my new, customized skin health plan.

If I can leave you with any parting wisdom, it’s that caring for and protecting your skin is as important as exercising regularly, eating healthy foods and getting enough sleep. First, you have to make a decision to change your skin (and your life) for the better. Next, you need to consult an expert to determine what is best for your particular skin type. Finally, you need to commit to your regimen. You won’t see the results you desire unless you stick with the program!

Come see the amazing team at Seiler Skin. Trust me - it was a game-changer for my skin, and can be for yours too!
