"Until Kybella, I have always had to refer my patients for liposuction or surgery to treat submental fullness and double-chin. Finally, we have an FDA-approved, safe, effective, non-surgical and permanent treatment for this common condition." - Warren B. Seiler III, MD
Are you tired of your double-chin? You're not alone, Dr. Seiler can help you!
67% of people said they are bothered by under-the-chin fullness or double-chin. Studies show people are bothered as much by under-the-chin fullness as by lines and wrinkles around and under the eyes.
What's been tried?
Prior to now, surgery and liposuction have been the standard treatment but are not always successful and have side effects such as scarring. Non-invasive device-based procedures do not provide surgical results. However, Kybella is a new, non-invasive successful treatment for submental fullness (“the double-chin”) that gives surgical results without the side effects. It will even help tighten and lift the skin which Liposuction alone will not accomplish.
What causes submental fullness (double-chin)?
Submental fullness is caused by a localized collection of fatty tissue under the chin on top of the neck muscles. It can impact men and women of varying ages and can be influenced by several factors such as aging, genetics and weight gain. It is often resistant to diet and exercise alone. Now we can help the body digest and remove this fat permanently with Kybella.
What is Kybella?
Kybella (deoxycholic acid) is the first and only FDA approved prescription drug manufactured by Allergan (maker of the long-trusted Botox and Juvederm) that is injected by a highly trained and experienced injector (must be a medical doctor in Alabama). With minimal discomfort, Kybella is injected under the skin into the fat to lyse fat cells and allow the body to permanently remove the collection of fat. Once lysed and reabsorbed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. This impressive result is permanent.
How many Kybella treatments will I need?
In your consultation, Dr. Seiler will discuss your concerns and the cause. If you are a good candidate, he will then customize a treatment to achieve your desired outcome. This generally consist of an average of 2 to 4 treatments, although some people will need more or less.
How long will my Kybella results last?
The results are permanent.
What will I experience during and after treatment?
Dr. Seiler will discuss with you in great detail what to expect so you are well educated in your questions and are prepared for what to expect.
The injections are nearly painless and you will have about 10 to 15 minutes of a heat sensation and fullness which quickly subsides. For the following 3 to 7 days, most patients will experience visible swelling and fullness but with minimal discomfort. This will generally only affect your appearance but not your daily activities or cause you pain.
When will I see results from Kybella?
Results are visible 4 to 6 weeks after each treatment and at that point Dr. Seiler will asses your result and discuss the possibility of an additional treatment.
Dr. Seiler may also recommend other procedures like the Vampire Facelift to compliment your Kybella treatment and improve your results.
Is Kybella safe?
Yes. If properly injected by a highly trained and experienced injector like Dr. Seiler, Kybella can be a safe and effective treatment for your double-chin. However, early studies did show less common temporary side effects that will be discussed with you in your consultation. Current injection protocols have been developed so that, upon proper injection, these early and rare detected side effects should not occur. At this time, Kybella is not approved for treatment in any other area of the body, therefore do not let anyone inject you in any area other than under the chin.
Only deoxycholic acid produced as Kybella from Allergan should be used to treat this condition. Other formulations may include this drug but are not FDA approved and are therefore untested and potentially dangerous. Dr. Seiler only uses the FDA approved drug Kybella.
Dr. Seiler will discuss all of this with you during your consultation. Read Dr. Seiler's blog: Is Kybella a safe treatment for your double chin?
