By Katie Pilkerton, Medical Aesthetican at Seiler Skin
Hi, everyone! It’s a pleasure to meet you via the blog - my name is Katie Pilkerton. I’m very excited about joining the Seiler Skin team, and hope to meet you in person very soon. In the meantime, I wanted to take a few moments and introduce myself, and tell you a little bit about my passion for helping patients achieve their skin-health goals.
After earning a bachelor of fine arts degree from Auburn University, I quickly realized that I wanted to go back to school to pursue a career in the world of aesthetics. Skincare and skin health had always been a passion of mine, and I wanted to put that passion to work by helping others. So, I went on to receive my Aesthetic License from Body Logic School of Cosmetology & Esthetics in Birmingham.
Having been in the aesthetics industry for more than seven years now, I have watched it evolve constantly with the latest advancements in science, technology and equipment. These continuous changes mean there is never a dull day in the skin-care world, and no shortage of new information to soak up! This abundance of opportunity has motivated me throughout my career, and opened doors that allowed me to work with and assist on a variety of laser treatments, including IPL, Laser Hair Removal, ND:YAG, Erbium, CO2, Halo, Radio Frequency and Ultra Sound. I’ve also received extensive training and certifications on many medical-grade skincare products.
So, how did I come to join the Seiler Skin team? Well, let’s just say I’m starting 2017 with an entirely new meaning for the phrase, “New Year, New You!” Normally, January begins with a few promises to myself that include healthy lifestyle goals (working out more, eating healthier, etc.). This year, however, is already different in a very real way! I began 2017 as a mother of two (a spunky 2-year-old little girl and a 12-week-old handsome boy) and made the big decision to accept a new position with Seiler Skin.
Why did I decide to join the team? I wanted to grow in my role as an aesthetician, challenge myself daily and further enhance my working knowledge on complex cosmetic procedures. Needless to say, I’m still as thrilled about the pursuit of new professional opportunities as I was the day I began my career!
In the short time since joining the team, I quickly realized that the Seiler Skin team practices what they preach. The entire staff puts the patient experience above all else, and goes above and beyond to ensure each patient achieves their desired results. In only a few short weeks, I have already learned more about cosmetic injectables and laser treatments than I expected to within six months.
In addition to absorbing as much as I can from Seiler Skin’s team of extensively trained medical aestheticians, I’m extremely excited about the chance to train under such a distinguished laser surgeon, Dr. Seiler. I have no doubt endless opportunities will continue to present themselves (including assisting Dr. Seiler as he trains physicians from around the country on Vampire® procedures, which utilize the science of Platelet Rich Plasma – aka, PRP).
Have I mentioned I love new learning opportunities?
Well, that’s the “CliffNotes version” of my story. Stop by Seiler Skin for an appointment with me, and I’ll fill you in on the rest!
