CoolSculpting changed my life – and not in the way you’d think

By Warren B. Seiler III MD

Throughout my entire adult life, I have tried to maintain an active, healthy lifestyle by working out, eating right and, of course, taking good care of my skin! However, for as long as I can remember, I’ve struggled with certain areas of my body – specifically with some fullness around my midsection – even when I was in the best shape of my life playing ice hockey in high school and college. No matter what I did, I could never achieve the look I wanted. I always felt like I was wearing one pants size too big, and was not confident putting on a swimsuit and taking my shirt off at the lake during the summer.

I used to blame it on myself and play a negative tape over and over again in my head – I wasn’t exercising hard enough, I was eating too many calories, I wasn’t following the right diet – you know that soundtrack, right? If you’re familiar, then chances are pretty good that you can relate to my frustration. Well, long story short, life got busier and I got older, but I still carried my concerns around with me every day – just like the fullness on my belly. At 41-years young, I finally decided I was going to try something different.

First, I pushed pause on the tape player. That song was old and worn out. Second, I accepted the fact that I wasn’t doing anything wrong – whether body chemistry or genetics were to blame, the one thing I knew for sure was that my problem area wasn’t going away because I didn’t hit the gym hard enough or eat enough vegetables. Third, I started to research other options – specifically treatments that were designed to eliminate stubborn fat. After all, I wasn’t alone – I’ve been discussing concerns about this exact type of issue with my patients for years – problem areas that are too small to address with a procedure like Liposuction, but couldn’t be solved with diet or exercise alone. And, if I found something that would work for me, I could offer a solution with proven results to our patients at Seiler Skin.

Again, long story short, after evaluating every device on the market and the science behind them, only one treatment met my standards and truly stood out from the pack – CoolSculpting. So, I made the decision to bring it to my practice and test it out before offering it to our patients. Let me tell you – it takes something really special to exceed my expectations, particularly when it comes to cosmetic medicine, and I can say with 100 percent confidence that this procedure has improved my life.

I don’t want to go into a lot of detail about the treatment itself – yes, it’s very tolerable and completely non-invasive. No, there is no downtime. Yes, the results truly speak for themselves (I finally dropped that pants size!). You can find answers to all of your questions about how it works and why it works HERE.

What I want to talk about is how it made me feel.

Remember that negative tape I mentioned earlier? Well, it has been replaced with a positive, upbeat track. A track that tells me I look good in the mirror – that I look fit. That I should be confident when I take my shirt off at the beach. That I don’t have to eat better or work harder at the gym even though I know both are important elements of a healthy lifestyle. That all the hard work I put in to take care of myself IS good enough. It pays me compliments, not insults. Moreover, I found a new confidence and level of self-esteem that comes through in everything I do.

What I found most interesting, and frankly unexpected, is the renewed motivation CoolSculpting has given me to maintain my healthy, active lifestyle. I don’t think I’m the only one who ever considered giving up because I wasn’t achieving the results I expected from working out and eating right. After getting this treatment, it’s almost like someone threw gas on a flame. I feel reenergized at the gym, and now work harder than I ever have before – not because I’m chasing something I’m not sure I’ll ever catch, but because I’ve finally gotten the results I wanted. And I want to keep them.

If you’re connecting with my experience or have your own stubborn, problem areas, first take solace in the fact that you are not alone. Second, please know that these issues are not exclusive to either men or women. Speaking firsthand, I know how hard it is for men to confront their insecurities – however minor they may be – especially when it comes to how you look in the mirror. In this respect, we’re more similar to women than many of us may be comfortable admitting to ourselves, let alone out loud. We believe even talking about them is a sign of weakness, and fear we’ll be judged. I don’t think it’s any secret that this fear is born from societal perceptions about masculinity and toughness, and that’s a problem all men must face head on if we want any relief.

So, for the guys out there reading this, believe me when I tell you – it’s totally normal to feel this way, really. Better yet, it’s totally acceptable to do something about it. Don’t make the same mistakes I made for years, and blame yourself or a lack of dedication for not being able to achieve the results that your biology decided weren’t going to happen without some outside help. Maybe you’ve already invested a lot of time in your health through exercise and a proper diet, so look at CoolScupting the same way – it’s not a sign of weakness, it’s just another great investment in a better version of yourself. That’s what this treatment is all about.

If you’ve made it this far, thank you for taking the time to read this very personal blog. It’s important to point out that I know I’ve always been in decent shape, even before I got CoolSculpting. I never thought I had weight to lose that wasn’t there to begin with. That’s not the issue here. This issue is that I had a concern that was negatively impacting my life – just like so many of us do – and instead of letting it continue to affect me, I found a great solution that has improved my life and overall self-confidence. Most importantly, instead of pretending I wasn’t concerned about my problem area, I’m openly sharing my CoolSculpting story in the hopes that it will encourage you to write a new story of your own.
