Dr. Seiler’s Take-Home List for Acne Prevention

During your consultation with me and our expert staff, we will discuss lifestyle and skin health factors that can help diagnosis what may be causing your acne or aggravating the condition. My cosmetic team and I will recommend a medical grade skincare regimen for you to do at home in addition to treatments in our office including HydraFacial treatments and chemical peels.  IPL, Vampire Facials and laser treatments will be discussed when your skin is healthier and the acne is under control.  I may also refer you for hormone and allergy testing if necessary.  Ensuring the following good habits at home will help us to have a successful outcome in clearing the acne condition.

  • Change your pillow cases each night (can turn inside out once each to save on laundry)
  • Use detergent that has no fragrance or perfumes
  • Be careful with hair shampoos, hair dyes, or any other similar products that might touch your skin
  • Make sure you wash your face immediately after sports practice or games
    If you play sports, clean your sporting equipment with each wear (including chin straps, jerseys, etc.)
  • Immediately change out of sweat dampened or wet clothing
  • Wipe your cell phone with anti-bacterial wipes every few days or even more regularly
  • While studying or working, don’t put your hands on your face or prop up your face with your hands
  • Don’t pick at your skin (this puts bacteria on your skin and can cause scarring)
  • If you have a whitehead that needs to be extracted, use 2 Q-Tips instead of your fingers
  • Wear latex gloves if you are going to touch your face or do extractions
  • Wash your hands with antibacterial soap regularly during the day
  • Use your Clarisonic Brush for at least one face wash each day if not two washes
  • Avoid sun exposure. If you are going to be in the sun, wear sunscreen recommended by Seiler Skin
  • Try to avoid too much dairy, chocolate, cheese, gluten or greasy foods in your diet
  • Be consistent with your skincare product regimen recommended by Seiler Skin
  • Don’t let your skin get dry, be consistent with a moisturizer recommended by Seiler Skin
  • Make sure you wash your face at least 2 times per day with a cleanser recommended by Seiler Skin
  • Do not overly cleanse or exfoliate your skin
  • If you wear makeup, make sure it is oil-free
  • We recommend you use medical grade mineral makeup such as Colorescience
  • Do not use self-tanner or get a spray tan on your face or skin areas that get acne
  • Be aware of anything that might touch your skin that could add bacteria or dirt
  • Try to avoid any touching of your face or acne prone skin
  • Schedule at least monthly HydraFacials and/or Chemical Peels at Seiler Skin. In addition the Vampire Facial is a very effective treatment for acne scarring and getting your skin healthy.
