Everything You’ve Always Wondered About Dr. Seiler!

By Seiler Skin Staff

For those of us who work with Dr. Seiler every day, we know him as the fun, caring, good-natured and scary-smart person that he is. We’re sure that comes across in his daily interactions with our patients, but have you ever wondered – what’s he really like? What is he passionate about? In order to help you get to know him better, our team decided to host a little in-office Q&A to see what we could discover about our boss.

Below, you’ll find just a sampling of the questions we asked, and some of his answers may surprise you!

Where is your favorite place to travel and why?

My favorite place to travel is, without a doubt, the University of Notre Dame! Not only is it my alma mater, but it also happens to be my favorite place on earth. The campus is absolutely gorgeous and it gets bigger every year. My grandfather attended Notre Dame, and my mom’s side of the family grew up relatively close by, so going there is almost like going home. It holds a special place in my heart, and every time I visit I tear up (just a little).

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

It’s hard to pick between a cheeseburger and pizza, but if I had to choose I would go with pizza. Thank goodness Slice is just a hop and skip away from our house!

What is your ideal way to spend free time?

As cheesy as it may sound, I spend every minute of free time I have with my wife, Jill. We love to travel, watch movies, and do various projects around our house. As long as we are together, you can pretty much guarantee I’m enjoying myself!

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

I would really love to become great at playing guitar. Jill and I recently started taking lessons, so that’s a step in the right direction! It’s actually coming very easily to me and I am really enjoying it.

If you had to pick an actor to play you in a movie about your life, who would it be?

Probably either Ben Affleck or Matt Damon. Why? Because Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. That’s why!

If you could have any super power, what would it be?

To be able to teleport myself to another place. Being invisible is a close second!

What are your three favorite movies?

My all-time favorite movie is, hands down, “Rudy.” My other favorites are “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” and the original “Rambo.” Kind of a strange but awesome assortment, wouldn’t you say?

What is your favorite type of music? What is your favorite band?

I like all genres of music, but my favorite type of music is heavy metal (this may come as a shock to some people!). I’m surprised I haven’t blown all the speakers in my car at this point. Chevelle is, by far, my favorite band.

If you could be any age for a week, what age would you be and why?

Though I haven’t yet reached this age yet, I’d probably go with 60 (so long as my joints hold up). I hope to be retired by then, with no worries or stresses in life. I’m somewhat of an old soul at heart!

If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet and why?

If I’m answering honestly, I would love to meet Randy Rhoads, a heavy metal guitarist who has played with Ozzy Osbourne and died in 1982. And yes, I’d like to play guitar with him!

What led you into cosmetic medicine?

I knew that I wanted to do something surgery-related throughout college and medical school. I became interested in plastic surgery during my surgical residency, but didn’t discover lasers until the very end of my training. While in medical school, I also discovered that I needed to practice in a field where I could identify a clear treatment path. I love the idea of being able to very objectively and succinctly diagnose a problem, know what to do to treat it and see relatively consistent results. The beauty of where I have gotten to in my practice is, if a patient comes to us with a problem, I instantly am able to identify the solution that is best suited for their needs. I’m someone who needs a clear solution with instant gratification, and that’s what cosmetic medicine gives me.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

I’ve accomplished two things in life that I’m extremely proud of. Personally, doing whatever I did to deserve Jill! Professionally, I’m very proud of how our practice has grown and developed, and of the team I get to work with day in and day out.

If you could have one talent, what would it be?

I have to go back to being a really good guitar player on this one. I want to be the Stevie Ray Vaugh of cosmetic medicine – surgeon by day, rock star by night!

What book has inspired you the most?

I recently read a book called “Poor Charlie’s Almanack,” which was written by Charlie Munger, who is the lesser known, but equally as brilliant, partner to Warren Buffett. His entire business philosophy is about the never-ending learning process, and using multiple areas of education and experience to make informed decisions (what he refers to as his multi-disciplinary approach). I highly recommend it!

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

My idea of perfect happiness is being on a secluded island with Jill and our dogs, without a care in the world – no worries and no stress. I’ll miss our patients, but hope they will understand!

Editor’s note: Once Dr. Seiler has mastered the guitar, we definitely will schedule a Botox and Blues party at our office. The music will be so good you won’t be able to move a muscle! #JOKES
