Why the P-Shot Shouldn’t Be a Taboo Treatment

By Warren B. Seiler III MD

Sexual health oftentimes is a difficult subject for people to discuss, especially when it comes to performance-related issues. These problems frequently are associated with a sense of shame and embarrassment that lead people to never bring up legitimate concerns directly impacting their quality of life. The fact of the matter is this: sexual health is, at its core, an area of overall health and well-being that deserves just as much attention as any other. People should never treat the subject as taboo and have a right to seek help from qualified medical professionals.

One of the most commonly recognized and discussed sexual health issues is erectile dysfunction (ED). ED occurs in roughly 52 percent of men and is caused by several factors, including but not limited to:

  • Blood flow/vascular issues
  • Heart disease
  • Complications from stroke/surgery
  • Age
  • Mental health issues

No matter the cause, this condition is one that impacts men and their partners on varying levels – but luckily, there’s an answer. I’m here to share with you how life-changing the P-Shot treatment can be and why there’s no shame in taking steps to improve your sexual health.

We have been offering the P-Shot treatment at Seiler Skin for about three years, and our patients couldn’t be happier with the results. This treatment is a safe, non-surgical procedure that uses Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) to address many of the conditions associated with ED. Patients commonly notice greater sensitivity and an enhanced ability to both achieve and maintain an erection after just one treatment, though some cases may require two to three. Male patients come into our office fairly anxious to discuss – let alone receive – the P-Shot treatment, which is why we use the upmost level of discretion with every consultation. I talk with each patient to fully assess their concerns and address any apprehensiveness they may have. The use of a needle on the penis may sound scary, but let me assure you that the most you’ll feel is a slight pinch or pressure, which then quickly dissipates. Prior to injecting the PRP, we apply a medical-grade numbing cream that reduces the likelihood you’ll experience discomfort. The treatment is so quick and painless, many patients are surprised when I tell them the procedure is complete!

Many men might ask, “Why would I undergo this treatment if there are prescriptions available that address ED?” While prescriptions are known to be somewhat effective for treating ED, most require a patient to take them immediately before any sexual activity. Many men also experience a plateau in their effectiveness, which leaves them with less-than-desired results. The P-Shot is a longer-term solution that removes uncertainty around if or when patients will see results.

If there is one thing I want patients to glean from this blog, it is this: erectile dysfunction is a diagnosable medical condition that deserves the same level of respect and treatment as any other medical issue. You would consult a medical professional for a knee injury or pulled muscle, so why should ED be any different? It’s time we tear down the societal taboo around sexual health and ensure we are taking care of our bodies in every regard.
